Should you be telling your story as fiction, nonfiction or poetry? What’s the difference? Does your writing style fit one genre better than another?
In this workshop, we will read and write fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. We will determine how understanding the rules and expectations of each genre can help us tell and sell our stories.
In “Which Genre?” we will discuss poetry, prose as they are defined by writers, the marketplace, and the way each is experienced by readers. This analysis will inform the three short pieces we will write in class.
Final Work Product: Three short pieces, each in different genres.
