It’s always a little strange when you have a countdown toward something then it’s suddenly over. The next day there’s a hard-to-describe aching in your heart. Like the day after your wedding or a big vacation or Christmas as a kid. For us, OBGYN residency has been one big 4-year countdown. I graduated last week and today finished written boards. It’s over, and it feels weird. Shouldn’t I be somewhere? | Pursuing medicine has always felt right (“a calling”) and necessary in many ways, but I’ll be honest... despite the rewards and knowing it’s kind of a right of passage toward doctorhood, it has been freakin’ hard (in PG terms). | To get us through some of those long days and nights, Clay and I would dream about life after residency. Actually, since my first year, we talked about planning an RV trip and touring our nation’s beautiful national parks. During my second year, I started detailing an itinerary. Last week, we caved and bought the most amazing Airstream. And on Friday, I can barely say it, we leave for 8 weeks of crazy adventure, together time, physical activity and relaxation (is that a thing anymore?)! You can follow our day-to-day journey here. Clay, Stellan, Quinn and I will try to be real, messy, and honest.
